Ghosts in South Africa
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, a good ghost story are always a winner...
With South Africa's rich history, it is not surprising that many ghosts are said to wander the halls of many historic landmarks and battlefields. Keep an eye out for the lonely ghost when visiting your next historic building in South Africa.

The Cape Argus Building is said to be home to a hanged pirate, Wilberforce. He rattles windows and scares the daylights out of visitors.
Groot Constantia - Cape Town
Visitors have claimed to have seen the ghost of Simon van der Stel walking through the oak trees at the Groot Constantia manor house.
The Castle of Good Hope - Cape Town
The Castle of Good Hope is the oldest building in South Africa still in use, and with age comes the spooky stuff. Ghosts that are hanging around include Pieter Gijsbert Noodt prowling the castle grounds, and Lady Anne Barnard in the ballroom. A ghostly soldier has been known to ring the bell and a large black dog has been spotted in the passageways.
The Supreme Court - Johannesburg
Perhaps one of South Africa's most famous murderesses, Daisy de Melker haunts all the places she was associated with, including Court 3 of the Supreme Court where she was sentenced.
The McGregor Museum - Kimberley
The McGregor Museum was originally known as the Kimberley Sanatorium opened in 1897. In 1933 it was let to the Sisters of the Holy Family as a convent. The convent may have closed in 1969, but it has been said that the ghost of one of the nuns still haunt the administration section in a flowing white habit.
The National Zoological Gardens - Pretoria
Once a military hospital, the groans and shrieks that can be heard at night are not always coming from the animals... The ghost of a nurse and wounded soldiers might be to blame.
Erasmus Castle - Pretoria
There are many stories about the Erasmus Castle in Pretoria. Staff have reportedly heard footsteps, taps open on their own, and lights are switched on and off. Apparently two or three of the Erasmus children who died in the tower have been spotted floating around the staircase and corridors.
So, what do you think? Any ghostly stories of your own to add?
