Irene Trading Post (Irene)
Overview of the Irene Trading Post
The Irene Trading Post is an interesting and eclectic place. Built in a renovated railway house next to the railway station, the Irene Trading Post offers a large variety of arts and crafts for sale, with the original railway house converted into a craft showroom.
The Irene Trading Post also features a small shop offering delicious home-made treats, including marmalades, preserves, various jams, rusks, chocolates and sweets.
A fully-licensed restaurant completes the picture, where one can enjoy a slice of cake, or a scrumptious Sunday lunch.
The Trading Post is committed to preserving the environment - "Go Green". They also provide many work opportunities to the local community and various skilled craftsmen.
Review of the Irene Trading Post
The Irene Trading Post is one of those places that everybody drives past, wondering what exactly is happening there, but rarely stop to visit. It is a huge mistake to judge the Irene Trading Post only on what you see outside.
I truly enjoy finding the little hidden gems, and the Irene Trading Post is exactly such a place. The renovated railway house cum craft shop is magnificent to behold, with such a variety that it takes a while to walk through all the rooms.
The eclectic decorations in the garden is something to behold. I don't know who did the decoration of the gardens, but it comes as a huge surprise. You will have too see it yourself to truly understand the magic they created.
The restaurant, which is also fully licensed, serves delicious food and snacks.
I would recommend stopping here on your way home to grab a quick lunch and enjoy the surprises that awaits around every corner. The Irene Trading Post has a very special kind of atmosphere, that only appears if a lot of time and love was put into the decoration.
