Gauteng Province Attractions and Activities
Gauteng is the smallest province in South Africa, with only 1.4% of the land area. But despite Gauteng's small size, it is the province with the most people.
The name Gauteng comes from the Sesotho word meaning "Place of Gold". This fitting name refers to the thriving gold industry in the province, following the 1886 discovery of gold of Johannesburg.
The province of Gauteng is at a subtropical latitude, but the climate is very much influenced by the altitude. Gauteng is known for its afternoon thunderstorms, and a mostly comfortable humidity and climate.
Considered the economic hub of South Africa, Gauteng contributes heavily to the financial, manufacturing, ICT, and transport sectors.
