Best Universities in South Africa
Overview of Universities in South Africa
In 2004, South Africa started reforming its higher education system, merging and incorporating small South African universities into larger institutions, and renaming all higher eduction institutions "University" (previously there had been several types of higher eduction institutions). "Technikons" were incorporated with others and thus no longer exist as sole entities.
There are also a large number of other educational institutions in South Africa, most are local campuses for foreign universities, and some offer unaccredited or non-accredited diplomas. Universities and colleges are accredited by the Council of Higher Education in South Africa.
Public universities in South Africa are divided into three types:
- Traditional Universities: offering mainly theoretical-oriented university degrees
- Universities of Technology: offering vocational oriented diplomas and degrees
- Comprehensive Universities: offers both type of qualifications.
Below, we have compiled a list/directory of the best South African Universities and as well as a little bit of info on each university.
